In the fuel filtration system of diesel vehicles, glass fiber materials, with their unique performance advantages, have become a core element ensuring filtration efficiency and system stability. Their application covers the entire process of coarse filtration and fine filtration, and combined with targeted structural optimization designs, they provide an efficient and reliable solution for diesel purification.
Coarse Filtration: Synergistic Filtration Mechanism of Glass Fiber and Metal Mesh
The core task of diesel coarse filtration is to intercept large particulate pollutants larger than 20μm (such as rust and gravel). The mainstream design adopts a composite structure of glass fiber and metal mesh: the metal mesh, as a supporting framework (with a pore size of 50-100μm), first intercepts ultra-large particles; the surface-combined glass fiber layer (with a fiber diameter of 5-10μm and a weaving density of 300-400 meshes per square centimeter) forms dense pores through fiber entanglement, and the interception efficiency for particles larger than 20μm can reach more than 90%.
This structure achieves a precise balance between filtration efficiency and fluidity: the fluffy structure of glass fiber captures particles while controlling the resistance within 5kPa, ensuring the smooth delivery of fuel in the low-pressure section (before entering the high-pressure oil pump); its excellent oil resistance can withstand sulfides and additives in diesel for a long time, with a service life of 20,000-30,000 kilometers, which perfectly matches the regular replacement cycle of coarse filtration.
Fine Filtration: Precise Interception Scheme of Ultra-fine Glass Fiber Membrane
The fine filtration stage needs to deal with fine pollutants of 1-20μm (colloidal particles, tiny metal debris). High-end diesel fine filters adopt a composite structure of ultra-fine glass fiber membranes (with a fiber diameter of 1-3μm) and nano-scale synthetic fiber membranes: the glass fiber layer, relying on irregular fiber arrangement, captures 5-20μm particles through inertial collision and interception effects; the synthetic fiber membrane is responsible for intercepting smaller particles of 1-5μm.
The rigid structure of glass fiber can effectively support the synthetic fiber membrane, preventing it from deformation and damage under high pressure of 10-30MPa; its low hygroscopicity (water absorption rate < 1%) can reduce water retention, and when combined with the hydrophobic layer, the interception efficiency of water particles can be increased to more than 85%. In practical applications, the total filtration efficiency of the glass fiber-containing fine filtration structure for 3μm particles is stably above 99.5%, which fully meets the protection requirements of the high-pressure common rail fuel injection system (with an injector aperture of 0.15-0.3mm).
Core Performance Advantages of Glass Fiber Materials
  • Temperature Adaptability: When diesel is injected at high pressure, the temperature can reach 80-120℃. Glass fiber materials (with long-term temperature resistance > 200℃) can maintain stable performance without aging, avoiding secondary pollution caused by filter material degradation.
  • Impact Resistance: In response to the pulsed flow of fuel caused by vehicle bumps (with pressure fluctuations of 0-30MPa), glass fiber can withstand frequent impacts with its excellent toughness, effectively preventing fiber shedding or structural damage.
  • Controllable Dust Holding Capacity: By adjusting the thickness of glass fiber (0.5-1mm commonly used in fine filtration) and bulk density, the dust holding capacity (50-100g/㎡) can be precisely controlled, synchronizing the replacement cycle of the fine filter with the vehicle maintenance cycle (such as 60,000 kilometers).
